A message from Jane Vallier:
To fill in some of the blanks.... Dave and I lived in Bham until 1989 when we moved to CT and he took a NYC job. My father died suddenly of a heart attack in 1980 and my mother of ovarian cancer in 1983, both 67 years of age! We kept the family cottage in Caseville until 2006 but with both of us working in NYC and with a house in Maine on the water, it was finally time to sell it.
We have 2 daughters - Molly and Elizabeth; Molly is divorced with a 3 and 5 year old, lives in Hamden CT for joint custody reasons; she is nurse practionner, spent time in Burkina Fasso in the Peace Corps and the Yale New Haven ER - both rugged duty. Lizzy is married, lives in Evanston IL, has a 5yr old, and has taught middle school English and ESL in a rural Maine prep school to the South Bronx projects.
I was a stay-at-home mother - Girl Scout leader, Jr. League treasurer, PTA everything - until 1993 when I started a MPH at Yale in Epidemiology and Biostatistics....hardest part was taking GRE's on a computer after being out of school for so long. After graduation in 1996 (proudly with an honors thesis and being 25 years older than most all my classmates) I started a wonderful job with Breast Surgery at Sloan-Kettering Cancer in NYC keeping their databases which were rich with information to analyze and managing a staff of research study assistants who on the most part were recent pre-med graduates looking for some experience and recommendations for med school.
With both our girls out of CT, we soon sold the Westport CT house and gave up the 2 hour train ride each way for a 400 sq ft NYC apartment and a weekend house in Maine.
We are now both retired and split our time between Naples FL and Harpswell ME......and a lot of trips back and forth to see our grandchildren. Living through 9/11 and the many years of anguish that followed for those of us in NYC taught us to not wait for tomorrow.
